WE Fit Wellness Attends 10th Annual Common Sight, Common Vision Breakfast
Today, the WE Fit Wellness team was honored to join many of our friends, community leaders, and elite blind athletes for the 10th Annual United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) Common Sight, Common Vision Community Breakfast in Colorado Springs, Colorado. What a powerful event.
Keynote Speaker, United States Veteran Richard Hunter, is a true testament that our disabilities do not have to stop us from living a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. Hunter explained, “I always have a stretch goal.” These include little achievements, like completing a full Iron Man, to organizing the largest international marathon competition for blind athletes. Hunter and the USABA staff, board members, and volunteers, work tirelessly.
Many of us who have attended previous Common Sight, Common Vision Community Breakfast events were missing U.S. Paralympic Goalball Athlete, former USABA Outreach Coordinator, and friend Matt Simpson. Executive Director, Mark Lucas explained that Matt has moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana to train at the first ever United States Goalball Training Center of Excellence. Through a generous grant from the Turnstone Foundation, USABA has finally realized a dream of having a full time Paralympic Goalball training program. We wish Matt Simpson, as well as other members of Team USA the best of luck on the Road to Rio!
From general health and wellness to elite athletics, it is imperative that individuals with disabilities can participate fully at all levels. We are proud to partner with USABA as they strive to ensure that blind individuals have the opportunity, motivation, and tools to pursue athletic endeavors.
This morning, Richard Hunter, Mark Lucas, and the USABA team inspired us to reach into our pockets to help them continue their life-changing work. Take a look at the USABA website and consider making a donation to help blind athletes achieve their dreams and climb to new heights!
